Jon Penvose is an educator, technologist, and applied AI engineer who builds platforms using emerging technology in architecture, fabrication, and interactive media. He is a Lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania’s Weitzman School of Design, teaching in the MArch and MSD-RAS programs, where his work focuses on scripting literacy and physical AI. He is also on the R&D team at xFigura, developing agentic structures and tools for architectural design. Jon’s research supports artistic production and fabrication through custom tooling and models trained on personalized datasets. His work has spanned virtual production, video games, and architectural practice, from cinematic production at Scissor Films to GAIA, the agent swarm he developed for Planet Garden at Lifeforms.io, to AI-driven design workflows at PARTISANS. Since 2022 he has produced interactive exhibitions in New York with Seed Gallery, a fine art and technology research collective he co-founded. Earlier work includes Pro-Futures!, an AI story generator that received the Hsinming Fung + Craig Hodgetts Postgraduate Award and the A+D Museum’s AI & Generative Art Award. He has led workshops at ACADIA, SCI-Arc, UCLA, Houdini School, University of Buffalo, WashU, and UT Austin. He holds a MArch from Kent State University and completed both the Architectural Technologies and Design Theory & Pedagogy EDGE programs at SCI-Arc.
